Fans of Digital Dreams Entertainment’s Mutant Football League will be excited to know it’s back. (At least, Mike was.) It’s been 30 years since Mutant League Football launched on the Sega Genesis in 1993. In that time, the creator returned with its successor game – with a small name change to Mutant Football League due to EA holding the original name's rights.
The very first game was originally published by EA, when Digital Dreams Entertainment sought to bring it back in 2017, they decided to handle the publishing themselves and launched a Kickstarter. Unfortunately, it didn’t do so well – likely because they were trying to do a mobile game, but as told by an interview with creator Michael Mendheim on the Press Row podcast in 2017, a second attempt was made, this time with a PC version that eventually launched on Steam. Based on its "Very Positive "ratings, it was received well.
Definitely well enough to warrant another game, which is on its way later this month. On May 31, Mutant Football League 2 will launch on Steam. Early access kicks off on the 28th. This new version of the game will feature dozens of teams and stadiums, visual upgrades, better armor and customization, and more.
In fact, fans can look forward to a major visual overhaul with dynamic lighting and improved details.
Digital Dreams also boasts that the game will have “deadlier Dirty Tricks,” cards players can use to easily tweak their roster, and SkillRoid Injections to boost their skills. Mutant Football League 2 will also feature a campaign mode named Dynasty Supreme. Players use this mode to build their teams into champions.
