Back in April, we covered the launch of the new digital version of Solforge called Solforge Fusion. The digital version interfaced with the physical version of the game and originally carried a price tag of $14.99 on Steam. While the early access disclosures said the team wouldn't be changing the price for launch, that hasn't held. Today, the card game, developed by Richard Garfield (Magic: The Gathering) and Justin Gary (Ascension), announced that it will now be free to play.
It really should have been from the beginning, in my opinion. While you did receive some things for buying into the game, you still had to buy physical half decks to open up more options than you had by default in the digital version. Steam charts apparently agreed. While the game has minimal reviews, they are generally positive, but that didn't lead to more players.
While the digital version is now free on Steam, the physical version of the game is also receiving a price cut with boosters being cut to $19.99. Your physical cards can add to your digital collection of procedurally-generated half decks.
If you bought into the Steam version, you'll be getting a free booster pack and access to the Mastery Track for no charge. F2P players will need to buy into the game's Mastery Track (i.e. a free and premium battle pass system.)
Here's an intro video for you to see what you're getting into. There's multiple videos in this series on the official YouTube channel.
