The This Week In Destiny 2 post for April 25th is full of tidbits and trailers, but one item has grabbed the headlines over the rest, and that's the removal of power limits from Legacy Gear. Power in The Final Shape is getting tweaked, and as part of those changes Legacy Gear will no longer have power limits. Rejoice all you hoarders of out-of-date gear, for your time has come.
Bungie recognizes that the odds are you've already dismantled your old Power Limited items by this point, so they intend to reintroduce sources to obtain most if not all of the older items in the future. These reobtained items will be "updated to modern Destiny sandbox standards with added properties such as Origin Traits and buildcrafting perks," the post explains.
In The Final Shape, Power will work with the following goals in mind:
-Power offers a meaningful progression that rewards players with a real sense of getting stronger.
-Destiny 2 is a game you can always play with your friends, regardless of your Power level.
-Lower the barrier to entry for Destiny 2’s story content.
-Power should be intuitive and understandable, both for experienced and new players alike.
With those goals in mind, Bungie is making it easier to play with your friends in The Final Shape with Fireteam Power. The player with the highest Power level in the fireteam will become the Power Leader, and all other players in the fireteam will be brought up to five Power below the Power Leader (if their Power isn’t already higher). Fireteam Power only affects activity difficulty, and your unadjusted Power level will still determine the Power of your rewards. Being a Power Leader will also give you a boost to the commendations earned.
These changes to Power in Destiny 2: The Final Shape sound like a net positive to me, simplifying the system and yet having it remain important to progression while making it easier to play together with your friends. It all sounds well and good, but we'll have to wait to see how it all plays out.
