As you may, or may not, recall, ArenaNet’s next entry in the Guild Wars franchise, Guild Wars 3 is more of a prequel to the two previous MMORPGs. It’s set about a thousand years before the original game, what’s apparently known as the Orrian golden age.
What does this mean for the game’s story? For one thing, it means that the Elder Dragons are still asleep. For another, it means that players have a different role to play, that of the Vaelwardens of the Order of the Vael. These protectors of the spirits known as Vael and wilds of Orr are sanctioned by human gods and known for creating and using small magical gems known as signets. Unfortunately, at the time the game begins, the order is struggling to maintain its status as the world changes around them.
Information on this “first guild ever chartered in Orr” was shared by the game’s narrative lead Arron Linde, in a post on the Guild Wars 3 site. It goes on to explain the order’s origins, which go back to when humanity first arrived in Orr and a catastrophe that impacted the magical ecology of the area. The post explains how Orr was settled and how things were handled as magic began to spread throughout the area. It also explains what it means for players to take on the role of Vaelwardens. The post can be read in full on the game’s site.
