Earlier this month, the Lost Ark team shared part 3 of their 2025 road map, highlighting plans for the Paradise Progression system, the new Valkyrie advanced class, and even the boss fight in the Kazeros Raid, dropping in September. Recently, we were offered the chance to ask Roxane Sabo, the Community Lead for Lost Ark at Amazon Games, some questions about the upcoming F2P MMORPG’s content and took them up on it.
Our questions focus specifically on the new system, raid, and the introduction of the female paladin, looking for some more details as well as what goes into these features and how the devs dealt with the more tricky aspects of making content appealing to players.
MMOBomb: In your most recent roadmap video, you introduced the Paradise system and the various ways it will improve progression for Western players. You stated that this would be somewhat easier content, and it’s soloable. How have you gone about ensuring that it won’t end up feeling like a chore for players?
Roxane Sabo: Correct, Paradise is solo content designed to be accessible and broken into three dungeon-like modes (Elysian, Crucible, and Hell). To avoid the chore feeling, Elysian runs are limited to five weekly and are super quick. Crucible is easy with runs under 60 seconds, but it offers a challenge if you're aiming for leaderboards. Hell mode is our jackpot mode that is not too difficult but rewards you based on how far you descend. Paradise should give players a nice change of pace from their regular endgame raid routine.
MMOB: The post detailing this content mentions several times that it’s designed to be easier. How difficult is it to balance creating content that makes it easier for players to level and acquire needed gear with making it enough of a challenge to still be engaging?
RS: Balancing can be tricky, but Paradise is meant to add progression options while refreshing the end-game loop. The new gear won't be a painful farm, and there are still progression elements and leaderboards in Crucible to keep things engaging. Since it's seasonal content, it'll evolve over time. We're looking forward to player feedback once it's live in the West and are ready to adjust as needed.
MMOB: Based on the description of the three activities that can be found in the Paradise system, it appears players will need to spend some time in Elysian, gearing up before they can take on the Crucible and earn keys to enter Hell. Once the gear is obtained and upgraded, will players have a reason to return to Elysian? Will upgrading this gear continue with new stats and effects added in future updates?
RS: Yes, as you progress in Crucible, you'll unlock more levels in Elysian, which gives you opportunities for better gear to push further in Crucible. You'll want to progress as far as possible in Crucible to increase your orb's power, which you get after clearing certain stages. The higher your Legacy of Power rating, the better your orb. The orb works outside this content too for an extra power boost, and when the season ends, its stats will be fixed before you can earn a new one in the following season.
MMOB: Players really have been waiting on the female paladin, Valkyrie, for a good while. Do you expect a significant adoption rate for her when she arrives in August? Can you tell us about any other classes you’re contemplating for the future?
RS: Players are definitely hyped for the Valkyrie class! What makes her unique is her flexibility as both DPS and Support compared to the standard Paladin, plus we're introducing bound gems. We can't compare adoption rates to other regions, but the excitement is high, and we're looking forward to seeing how players use this versatile class.
MMOB: The Kazeros raid series has been going for a while now, and you’re teasing something pretty big in Q4. What has player reception of the raid series been as it’s gone on. What lessons will you be taking into the next raid series?
RS: With the recent series, we've introduced several changes like the Resurrection System, Frontier System, and various nerfs for content that was being seen as just a bit too challenging. We're constantly listening to feedback, and as mentioned in our team updates and roadmap videos, we're working to better support new and returning players while still giving hardcore players a challenge paired with things like leaderboards. We'll have more to share as we progress, so keep an eye out for future team updates!
