Despite some setbacks and divisiveness in the community at times, Pantheon Rise of the Fallen is in an Alpha state, and Alpha backers have been playing the game. It hasn't been all sunshine and roses in 2023 for the MMORPG, but they have accomplished a major goal, which was getting players in the game.
In the 2023 Year In Review blog, CEO Chris Rowan steps into the live world of Pantheon Rise of the Fallen and looks back at the year that was 2023, and ahead to 2024.
The change of art style was one of the big milestones this year, although it definitely wasn't met with universal praise. Fans of the game were quite divided on the change of art, with some worried the game was going to end up looking like World of Warcraft. Rowan admits that the new art style doesn't project well in stills and videos, but says it does work when you are live in the game.
Next up Chris tackles the debacle that was the 247 mode, which raised huge concerns about the game here at MMOBomb. They are still sticking to their guns that 247 mode helped iterate the game, though I question how much it could have really accomplished in the one week it was active before player pushback made them change course to the current, more traditional, alpha testing they are conducting now.
Despite some controversy and some setbacks, the game is now in a testing cycle that players seem more content with, and the team behind Pantheon Rise of the Fallen can look forward to 2024. Their goals for the New Year are simple; better communication, accomplishing goals on time, more content faster, more resources to accelerate production, and more people playing Pantheon.
At least Pantheon devs listened to their players and made changes accordingly, or else this could have been yet another piece concerned about the future of the game. Instead, it sounds like they are now on the right path at least, and their future success will be earned or lost on the merits of the game they produce.
