Jagex has been pretty busy working on RuneScape this year as they continue with the year-long ‘Road to Restoration’ launched as part of the MMORPG’s 25th anniversary. The most recent step in that year-long project is a visual overhaul of the game’s player avatars, which the company notes is the game’s biggest visual overhaul in the last decade. It’s a “complete, modern refresh” of the players’ beloved characters.
The overhaul introduces a “more refined, high-fidelity avatar head and body model” and matching chatheads. There are also new hairstyles for both genders, while existing ones have been tweaked. Interestingly, this is only the first step, and players can expect more in the Fall.
As mentioned, the latest update is only a part of what Jagex has been working on for the game. Some changes are already available, while more are yet to come. This includes everything from changes to the game's interface and a rebalancing of early gameplay to the removal of the ‘Daily Scape’ activities.
Many of these changes are based on player feedback, and undoubtedly intended to futureproof the game, offering players what’s most appealing now, rather than ten years ago. As for the visual overhaul, the objective is to make things feel more cohesive. That includes removing certain items and cosmetics that are thematically out of place.
