It's a sad day for me. I actually LOVED Friday the 13th: The Game. Sure, it has its faults, but it was a solid asymmetrical horror game and the team behind it at Illfonic was passionate as all hell. While Illfonic has had to move on to other titles in the same genre like Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game, the mayhem around Camp Crystal Lake comes to an end today.
It's especially sad to see this one go since the larger issues with the game's development just had absolutely nothing to do with the team. They were unfortunately just caught in the middle of a lawsuit between the creators and the then-current owners of the IP. Sadly, the holding pattern was just too long and the game fell off.
Having made basically everything free earlier this year when the team announced their license expiration, you've been able to play the title, but that ends tonight. Servers will go offline as we start the new year. While there's a CHANCE you may be able to still play tomorrow according to the original announcement's "at least" qualifier on that date, I wouldn't hold out too much hope. The team retweeted their original announcement earlier this month as a "reminder," so it looks like December 31st is still the "final" day.
Who knows, though, Jason never seems to actually have a "final" day...
