MMOBOMB
Jun 14, 2025
After August 31, all 32-bit game worlds in The Lord of the Rings Online will permanently close.
This move marks a major shift in the MMORPG’s technological infrastructure. The developers have been gradually rolling out 64-bit game worlds — which are more stable and modern — and offering free character transfers to these updated servers. Players must transfer their characters, Kinships, and Shared Items by 11:59 PM Eastern (GMT) on August 31, as after this point the 32-bit worlds will become inaccessible and transfers temporarily unavailable.
These worlds will reopen later as “dark worlds” for a limited two-year period to allow transfers, but players won’t be able to log into them, and no timeline for this process has been confirmed. So early transfers essential.
Designated destination servers include Sting, Glamdring, and Peregrin (RP) in the U.S., and Grond, Orcrist, and Meriadoc (RP) in the EU. Kinship leaders should abandon or sell their Kinship housing before the closure date, and character creation on 32-bit worlds will be disabled starting July 30. Players from previously closed “dark worlds” can also still transfer to 64-bit servers until August 31, but these transfers are final, and Customer Support will not assist with missing items or characters.
In addition, the legacy read-only forums at forums-old.lotro.com will be shut down permanently on August 31. If you were a user, you should save any desired content before then.
Also, the Treebeard Legendary World will reach its final level cap of 130 on June 18.
