War Thunder Celebrates Alexander Ovechkin Breaking Wayne Gretzky’s Record With the “Puck! Puck!” Event

This past weekend was a big one for hockey fans. Of course, whether that’s a good or a bad thing likely depends on how big of a Wayne Gretzky fan you are. Even those people probably have to admit there’s something about watching someone come along and break a record, as Alexander Ovechkin did this weekend with his 895th goal.

One group that really seems to be excited about this is the War Thunder team at Gaijin Entertainment. In honor of the achievement, the developer announced the “Puck! Puck!” event in the F2P war strategy game.

During the event, which lasts until April 11, players will be able to earn several goodies commemorating Ovechkin’s achievement. These include two decals and a profile icon. To earn the “Hockey Puck” decal, players will need to play 8 battles using USSR or USA vehicles of rank II or higher. Winning eight battles using these same vehicles will earn players the “Callsign ‘Hockey Player’” icon. A third reward, the “Hockey Stamp” decal, can be obtained by using the “OVI” code in the activation page linked in the event announcement. It may seem like an unusual event for a war game, but free goodies are still free goodies.
