MMOBOMB
Jun 19, 2025
When it comes to MMORPGs, I need my character to look good. I’ve passed on gear upgrades because they didn’t match what my character was already wearing. And I’ll grind endlessly for a piece of equipment that completes my look, regardless of stats. That’s why I love transmog.
Transmogrification (or transmog for short) is a feature that lets you override the appearance of your equipment without affecting its stats. The term was popularized by World of Warcraft. You get to wear the best gear functionally while choosing how it looks aesthetically. It’s essential for players like me who care about their character’s style as much as their DPS.
Games with this kind of system are better because of it. Guild Wars 2 lets you mix and match armor skins, apply dyes, and save looks in templates. RuneScape allows you to override the look of gear with cosmetics or outfits. Path of Exile offers cosmetic purchases, permitting you to fully skin armor, weapons, effects, and more.
Look, I get it — some players couldn’t care less about how their character looks. But I do. So if you see me in your party and I’m not wearing the most optimal gear, I apologize in advance. I chose style over stats. Because from my perspective, fashion is the real endgame.
