2024 is a big year for both Warcraft and World of Warcraft with them celebrating their 30th and 20th anniversaries, respectively. While we've known that the team had things planned since Blizzcon of last year, we hadn't yet seen actual details about what World of Warcraft players could expect in the MMORPG. That changed today, and the event looks kind of awesome so far.
I say "event", but it is actually its own full patch.
First up, Blackrock Depths gets some raid love with 8 main bosses and 5 mini bosses. The raid will allow 10-15 players into it and will come in LFR, Normal, and Heroic varieties.
Next up is an outdoor event that harkens back to the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj. Since this involves a bit of time travel, who better to introduce us the to event that Chromie. As one would expect, this means we'll be seeing enemies there that don't belong in Silithus or in that time period. Expect to run into the Legion, the Scourge, Tichondrius, and even the return of Kel'Thuzad.
You want some Timewalking? Ok fine, have some Timewalking. It won't be Battle for Azeroth, though, if that's what you were thinking. We're getting Classic dungeons this time around. Head back to Deadmines, Zul'Farrak, Dire Maul, and Stratholme. Those last two will see two wings each. While these will not be introduced until the 20th anniversary events start, they will become part of the regular rotation of Timewalking dungeons after the event. Make sure to check the vendors as rewards are being refreshed to add new things, although some classic drops may still have a chance to show up.
Obviously there's still going to be a shindig at the Caverns of Time, but this time it's all outside the entrance. Take part in fashion and storytelling events, play some "Mount Mania" to show off your mounts, or explore some of the surrounding areas...including an ice rink and a pet area. There's even kind of a "sequel" to Secrets of Azeroth planned. Expect bosses of the past to be hanging out in Tanaris just waiting to be taken down.
The video below is great and shows off great rewards including a 20th birthday balloon pet, mini-dreadlord pet, and additional rewards from the Trading Post and the event's currency...including revamped versions of Tier 2 sets complete with versions for classes that didn't exist at the time.
As for newer race updates, the Dracthyr are getting 6 new class options: Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warrior, and Warlock. Dracthyr also get a Skyriding feature called Squadrons that allow flying in formation. It's awesome.
Since the entire 11.05 patch is the anniversary celebration, so don't expect this to run for just a couple of weeks. The festivities will roll for a little over 2 months. Expect it on the PTR soon!
