1954: Alcatraz is an indie adventure and puzzle game published by Daedalic Entertainment. Players explore a gritty comic style depiction of San Francisco in the 1950s while interacting with shady characters including brutal felons, partners-in-crime, cops, and snoops. The narrative centers on Joe, who serves a forty-year sentence for an armored truck heist, with his wife Christine also serving as a playable character alongside him. The story follows the fate of stolen money that remains hidden while various factions seek to recover it. Choices made by the player regarding love, treachery, life, and death determine whether Christine assists Joe in his prison break or deceives him for revenge. These decisions lead to various possible outcomes within a dynamic plot involving more than twenty additional 3D animated characters. The game includes over sixty hand-drawn backdrops based on original footage of San Francisco, North Beach, and Alcatraz. Atmospheric beats and jazz provide the soundtrack for this mature crime story filled with challenging puzzles and exciting dialogues written by Gene Mocsy. An Italian language notice indicates that version 1.3 is required for the Italian localization. The experience allows players to decide if they will recover the fortune together or succumb to greed in a harsh environment.
