Aven Colony is a single-player strategy and city builder developed by Mothership Entertainment and published by Team17 Digital. Released on July 24, 2017, this indie sci-fi title lets players manage humanity's first extrasolar settlement on the alien planet Aven Prime. The game includes the Cerulean Vale DLC in this version. Players guide a small colony into becoming massive cities while handling the difficulties of settling a new world. The environment features deserts, tundras, and jungles located light years from Earth. Colonists must survive a low-oxygen atmosphere alongside extreme electrical storms, shard storms, dust devils, and toxic gas eruptions from geothermal vents. The planet offers diverse biomes ranging from lush wetlands to less habitable desert and arctic regions. Alien life forms such as giant sandworms, deadly plague spores, and a vicious fungal infection known as The Creep also inhabit the world. As Colony Governor, players supervise citizens using 12 distinct overlay modes to manage crops, happiness, crime, air, electricity, employment, resources, commute, structures, drones, and water. Construction drones allow for building dozens of structure types to house colonists, establish trading routes, and welcome immigrants. Existing buildings can be enhanced through several upgrade tiers to push the colony forward. The full single-player campaign reveals secrets about this brave new world as part of its story. The main story takes approximately 28 hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to around 36 hours. A completionist run requires about 44 hours to finish all content. An expedition system lets players deploy pioneers to explore alien ruins, recover artifacts, repair crashed vessels, and rescue lost explorers. During these missions, teams face plague and creep spore nests while fending off splinter groups, rebels, and robot guardians. The game features a fully functional day/night and seasonal cycle where winter freezes the planet. This harsh climate stops farms from growing food and reduces electricity generation from solar panels during that season.
