About
DRAINUS is an indie action title published by WSS playground and PLAYISM, with development handled by Team Ladybug and WSS playground. The game was released on May 22, 2022, and features single-player gameplay where players control the Drainus ship. This vessel serves as the Kharlal Empire's most cutting-edge fighter capable of absorbing energy bullets from enemy ships moving through space. The narrative takes place on the planet Halpax, which is located in the far reaches of space under the oppressive rule of the Kharlal Empire. A slave residing there battles an illness called Planetary Compatibility Disorder and must return to Earth for a cure. His daughter, who is also a slave, feels devastated by her father's condition but remains helpless to intervene. During this time, a humanoid character named Ghenie appears, resembling a frog, and begins speaking about having come. The main story takes approximately three hours to complete, while the main story plus extras also requires about three hours of playtime. Players can use the energy absorbed by the ship to enhance its functions, such as adding new weapons. The completionist length for the game is around four hours.

DRAINUS Critic Reviews and Review Scores
EurogamerMartin Robinson
Though if you’ve any affection for the genre, or any love for the likes of Darius and Gradius, then there’s really no reason to wait until then. Drainus has a silly name and a few small frustrations, but that doesn’t stop it delivering the same heart-soaring spectacle and sharp, satisfying action that makes the greats soar. This might fall just short of being one of them, but it’s an exquisite shooter all the same.
