Eternal Threads is an indie action adventure RPG and puzzle casual title published by Secret Mode and developed by Cosmonaut Studios. The game was released on May 19, 2022, and functions as a single-player experience where players manipulate time within a narrative framework. This first-person story-driven puzzle game focuses on choice and consequence while allowing users to alter the flow of events. Players take on the role of an operative sent to the North of England in May 2015 to address corruption in the timestream following a house fire that claimed six lives. The objective involves manipulating the choices made by housemates during the week leading up to the incident rather than simply stopping the fire itself. Users have free and complete reign to explore the seven-day timeline before the event occurs. The gameplay allows players to watch and alter significant events from the entire week as many times as they like and in whatever order they wish. Some decisions result in minor effects on the timeline, such as moving objects around the house or revealing deeper stories. The main story takes approximately seven hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to eight hours. A completionist run requires about ten hours of gameplay.

Those few quibbles aren't quite enough to sully Cosmonaut's otherwise thoughtful game, though, and it sank its talons in deep enough to keep me experimenting with "just one more" event into the wee hours. It's possible some may mislabel its careful pacing as slow, and others may think its prosaic presentation boring. For me, however - whilst it's not without its flaws - Eternal Threads presents its story, characters, and mechanical systems with care and precision, weaving together an entirely captivating experience.
