GemCraft - Frostborn Wrath is a dark fantasy, fast-paced real-time strategy and tower defense title developed and published by Game in a Bottle. Released on January 10, 2020, this single-player experience serves as the fifth chapter in the series, adding a new puzzle piece to its branching epic story arch. Players break free from a frozen prison to reclaim their wizardry knowledge while facing sinister enemies that are gathering a demonic army near the Spiritforge. The journey involves creating versatile gems and placing them into various buildings to transform them into deadly weapons against monster horde attacks. The core gameplay loop allows you to craft and combine six types of gems with different effects to shape your defense strategy or make quick tactical decisions during battles. You can construct buildings to house your gems for diverse uses, cast spells to enhance them or strike at the enemy, and level up by unlocking skills. Control over the speed of battle is provided through fast-forward or pause options to fit your preferred play style. Additionally, you can socket fragments into a mystical talisman to obtain new special bonuses and use an enrage gem slot to make upcoming waves more fierce for greater experience points. The game offers multiple modes including Endurance, where you hold out as long as possible to gain additional endurance wave stones, and Trial mode with fixed settings to test your gemcrafting skills. There are over 100 fields of battle available with various conditions and challenges, many featuring linked waves where different enemy types arrive together. A wide range of battle traits can be unlocked, combined, and stacked to replay battlefields for more dangerous encounters with greater rewards. Completing the main story takes approximately 57 hours, while including extras extends playtime to 73 hours, and a full completionist run requires about 114 hours. Veterans returning from GemCraft - Chasing Shadows will find a brand new chapter with whole new fields and a chapter map to explore alongside larger battlefields. The interface has been redesigned along with gem types, skills, battle traits, and strike spells, while new buildable structures like lanterns and pylons are now available. Gems gain strength as your mana pool levels up, providing a poolbound bonus for all gems that was previously limited to white components. Visuals run at Full HD native resolution, and the system includes a collectible fragment shape collection to transform talisman fragments into desired forms.
