About
Hedon Bloodrite is an indie action RPG and adventure title developed and published by Zan_HedonDev. Released on May 15, 2019, this single-player experience merges two previous titles into a hand-crafted journey. The game offers over twenty hours of content for the main story, extending to thirty-one hours when extras are included. A completionist run can take up to forty-three hours depending on how thoroughly players explore the world. The setting places ancient and medieval civilizations alongside crystal-powered technologies in an underground environment filled with lore and secrets. Players navigate complex, non-linear levels without relying on arrows to guide them through the mysteries of the Underworld. The atmosphere features sounds like whistling cave drafts and humming mossy crystals while players consider their next move. Combat is fast-paced and involves shattering foes with axe throws or using a potion launcher to lob acid at enemies. Additional tools for fighting include a flamethrower attached to a goblin-crafted shotgun that can ignite opponents. The RPG elements allow travel between Hexen-style level clusters where characters interact and secondary quests appear. Choices made during the game impact the world, and players can lead orc daughters of the Iron Division against armies of chaos. Soundtracks shift from tense ambient tones to serene sounds and occasional heavy metal tracks, including compositions by Alexander Brandon. The game provides six difficulty levels that alter damage taken, progression clues, and the placement of monsters and items on each map. One option called Bearzerk swaps the regular arsenal for special melee weapons to completely change gameplay. The title is fully moddable, allowing users to create maps with the same ease as in Doom. It is also DRM free, meaning ownership transfers immediately after purchase. A photosensitivity warning notes that flashing and flickering lights may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
