LEGO The Lord of the Rings is an action, comedy, and adventure title published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by Traveller's Tales. It was released on November 27, 2012. The game allows for single-player and co-op modes. Based on the motion picture trilogy, the story follows the original plotlines of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. These events are re-imagined with LEGO humor and variety. Frodo must leave his home to destroy an ancient magical ring at Mount Doom. His journey is perilous and filled with Orcs and other foes. A fellowship forms to assist Frodo, including Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Players explore the open world of Middle-earth while battling creatures like the Balrog and the Witch-king. The mini-figure characters deliver dialogue from the films. Users can wield the Palantír to jump between multiple story-lines. The Blacksmith Shop lets players collect, combine, and forge new items using Mithril. Over 80 playable characters are available to discover and unlock. Weaponry and magical items such as the Light of Earendil and Elven rope can be used. The game supports easy drop-in, drop-out play for family and friends.
