About
Near Death is an action, indie, adventure, and simulation title developed and published by Orthogonal Games. Released on August 2, 2016, this single-player experience places you in a situation where your plane crash-lands in Antarctica. You find yourself stranded alone at an abandoned research facility while a deadly blizzard surrounds the area. The environment plunges you into utter darkness with temperatures reaching 100 degrees below zero. Rescue is impossible under these conditions that are far too harsh to allow for any external help. The core gameplay involves exploring Sutro Station and using available tools to escape and find your way home. Although not classified as a survival game, the title focuses on surviving against an incredibly cruel opponent: Antarctica itself. You must reclaim the station from the elements while fighting for your life in a terrifying environment. This setting feels more like another planet than the world you know due to its extreme nature. The main story takes approximately three hours to complete. Adding extras extends the playtime slightly, bringing the total duration to around four hours for a completionist run. You must navigate the polar night where freezing to death can happen in just a few minutes. The game requires you to adapt to an environment that is unforgiving and dangerous without any hope of rescue.
