About
A Guidebook of Babel is an indie adventure and puzzle title developed by StarryStarry and published by Pixmain. The game was released on August 2, 2023, following its initial showcase at the Nintendo Indie World event in 2022. Players can experience this single-player journey across four distinct chapters that explore themes of comedy and adventure. The narrative centers on a strange rebirth adventure aboard Babel where the crew uses a Memory Extractor to erase your memories before launching you into the afterlife with a cloud cannon. Passengers often express regret that it is too late to say farewell to the past, while the crew focuses on gathering memories as fuel. You will need to go back in time to subtly rewrite history and trigger the butterfly effect to solve hidden puzzles. Your goal involves helping trapped characters overcome difficulties such as escaping an Interrogation Room or collecting a Stonehearth Crab Egg. Success does not come from brute force; instead, you must locate crucial events to rewrite them with your pen. This action immediately triggers a butterfly effect that changes the plot's path and reverses the current situation. The setting ranges from a drenched deck and bustling Central Station to a busy Memory Factory and an empty Giant Boiler. Along the way, you will meet panic-stricken humans and tough crew members while investigating unprecedented instruments and strange creatures. The story follows various characters including a pilot stuck in a monsoon, a head chef worried about canned food, and a circus clown searching for his daughter. The fates of these characters complement each other within a tragicomedy about separation that combines cute and funny elements with retro and cartoon styles. A notebook serves as a guide to help assemble collected evidence into a comprehensive reasoning chain when you feel clueless. The full experience including extras takes approximately nine hours to complete.
