About
Backpack Hero is an action RPG and dungeon crawler developed by Jaspel and published by Jaspel, IndieArk, and Different Tales. Released on August 15, 2022, this indie title functions as a turn-based strategy game where inventory management is central to gameplay. Players collect rare items with unique powers and must organize them within their backpack to maximize performance. The location of each item significantly impacts its effectiveness, requiring strategic placement to increase power during battles. The game offers single-player experiences with controller support for those who prefer using a gamepad. You can choose from five unique play styles by selecting different heroes to tackle randomly generated levels in endless dungeons. Each run presents unpredictable items, unique layouts, and various challenges that test your ability to learn enemy attack patterns. With over 100 enemies to battle, the roguelike format ensures varied encounters across swamps, caves, and ancient dungeons. Beyond combat, players can rebuild their hometown of Haversack Hill when not facing danger. This meta progression allows you to turn the village into an efficient hamlet to attract new residents through research and trade. You can buy and sell items, unlock additional heroes, challenges, and quests while working toward restoring the world of Orderia. The main story takes approximately 8 hours to complete, though extras extend playtime to around 49 hours. A completionist run covering all content requires about 225 hours of gameplay.
