About
Death end re;Quest is an action RPG adventure published by Idea Factory International and developed by Idea Factory and Compile Heart, released on May 15, 2019. The single-player experience centers on Arata Mizunashi, a video game programmer who receives an email from his missing colleague Shina Ninomiya regarding their unfinished project, World's Odyssey. After Shina vanishes, Arata discovers she was trapped inside the virtual landscape they built together while he attempts to debug the code. Players must help her complete the game to reach a perfect ending that has a success rate of only 1%. The narrative explores the differences between the virtual world and reality through interactions with NPC characters who blur the lines between humanity and artificial intelligence. A nefarious force blocks Arata from extracting Shina, forcing them to navigate a world ravaged by bugs where she remains the sole active player. The story challenges perceptions of what constitutes real life versus a simulated environment as they face horrors on both sides of the screen. Gameplay mechanics allow players to switch between reality and in-game modes to investigate mysteries or battle glitched monsters. During turn-based command battles, the genre can shift from first-person shooter to fighting game styles while roaming freely against fearsome enemies. Activating character-specific dungeon skills enables access to hard-to-reach areas and hidden treasures within the hyper-realistic setting. The main story takes approximately 25 hours to complete, with additional content extending playtime to 35 hours for those seeking extras. A completionist run requires about 40 hours to finish all available content. The package includes free DLC such as the Helping Hand Set and two Gag Weapon Sets.
