About
Dropsy is an indie adventure and puzzle game published by Devolver Digital and developed by Tendershoot and A Jolly Corpse. Released on September 9, 2015, this single-player title follows a clown named Dropsy who seeks redemption after a circus fire damages his reputation. The narrative centers on themes of love and kindness as the protagonist helps those in need while dealing with an ill father. Players can also communicate with animals throughout their journey to solve various challenges. The game offers an open world setting where players choose which avenues of adventure to explore rather than following a single path. Challenging puzzles and complex conundrums block progress, but clever thinking and cheerful hugs allow Dropsy to change his luck. Communication occurs through visual icons instead of traditional text-based dialog trees, creating a text-free experience for interacting with colorful characters. This approach lets players piece the story together however they choose within the richly detailed environment. The main story takes approximately four hours to complete, while adding extras extends playtime to five hours. A completionist run requires about seven hours to finish all available content. The game combines point-and-click mechanics with a focus on unearthing dark secrets and winning over people around the clown.

An excellent stab at a traditional point-and-click, but with classic problems holding it back.

Dropsy is a genuine and somber adventure about a creepy clown that exceeds its quirky premise in the most meaningful way.
