The narrative follows Robin, a mechanic who wishes to help people despite lacking an official license. After she begins fixing things with her wrench, the world starts falling apart while Penance attacks those she cares about. One Concern agents also pursue her as larger issues involving Ivory fuel droughts and personal conflicts unfold around her. This title features numerous densely detailed locations filled with fine-tuned action and puzzles for players to explore. The gameplay includes over twenty gear-grinding, screen-filling boss battles that stand in the way of progress. Main story completion takes approximately eleven hours, while including extras extends playtime to thirteen hours. A full completionist run requires about sixteen hours to finish all content.

Iconoclasts' combination of clever Metroid-inspired design and lush art offers more than enough incentive to stick with it, even when the ambitious plot doesn't always connect. This is a strange, complex game that – refreshingly – doesn't play quite like any other work in the genre. Iconoclasts offers a welcome reminder that they don't all have to play the same way.
