About
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is an action RPG published by NIS America, Inc. The game was released on July 6, 2021, and was developed by Nihon Falcom in partnership with PH3 GmbH and Engine Software BV. Players can experience the title through single-player or multi-player co-op modes. The narrative follows Adol, who becomes a Monstrum after being cursed while imprisoned in Balduq. This transformation grants him powers necessary to stop the Grimwald Nox from consuming the city. The story explores themes of reality and identity within this prison setting. Combat relies on established mechanics like Flash Dodge and Flash Guard to outmaneuver enemies. New systems such as Gifts and Boost Mode augment fighting abilities during encounters. Feared Protectors allows players to choose among six notorious Monstrum characters, each offering unique Gifts that enable scaling walls or detecting hidden objects. Exploration takes place within the massive city of Balduq where players accept quests to aid townsfolk. Venturing into the Grimwald Nox is required to vanquish threats protecting the settlement. The main story takes approximately 27 hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to around 40 hours. A completionist run requires about 53 hours of gameplay.
