About
PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter developed by Rogue Planet Games and published by Daybreak Game Company. The game launched on November 20, 2012, and continues to offer an all-out planetary war where thousands of players battle as one across enormous continents. This action title utilizes infantry, ground and air vehicles, along with teamwork to destroy enemies in a revolutionary first-person shooter format on a massive scale. Players drop into intense combat involving infantry, vehicle, and air units to win control of critical territories while gaining key resources for their empire. The battles persist without end, providing constant challenges that require individual skill, team grit, and empire-wide coordination. An extensive skill tree and class-based system allow players to customize their soldier, weapons, and vehicles to match their playstyle. These customizations help meet the needs of squads, outfits, and empires within the game world. The main story length is 27 hours, while the main story plus extras extends to 78 hours. For those aiming for completionist goals, the total gameplay time reaches 465 hours. The game features multi-player mechanics that support large-scale engagements across four massive continents.Read moreShow less

PlanetSide 2 Critic Reviews and Review Scores
EurogamerDan Whitehead
All of which makes PlanetSide 2 a real outlier at a time when major console releases are either utterly broken or blandly efficient. This is a game with some fairly major problems, but the rewards are so unique, so thrilling and occasionally thought provoking that even dropped frames, obtuse direction and dumb players can't diminish it for long. This is a game that will not appeal to everyone. Many will fall by the wayside when it fails to play like a normal FPS in the long term. Others will drift away, wearied by the endless churn of battle. That's why the game's free-to-play status is a good thing - those players will have lost nothing for their trouble. For those who click with PlanetSide's cold relentless vision of mass warfare, it can easily become an ongoing obsession. The only way to find out is to sign up and see for yourself.

PlanetSide 2's massive-scale multiplayer warfare takes some getting used to, but it's a battle well worth fighting.

PlanetSide 2 is one long grind, but the scale and competitive feel are wholly unique

PlanetSide 2 on the PlayStation 4 suffers from a lot of technical issues--but not enough to dissuade you from the rigors of its massive battles.
