About
Before We Leave is a city building game developed by Balancing Monkey Games and published by Team17 Digital LTD. Released on May 12, 2021, this indie title falls into the managerial, strategy, simulation, and casual genres. Players engage in single-player gameplay to nurture a reborn civilization set in a specific corner of the universe. The experience focuses on growing settlements, gathering resources, and managing pollution alongside happiness metrics. The narrative follows Peeps who have spent generations underground before emerging to the surface for the first time. These characters lack knowledge of agriculture beyond potatoes and must rebuild their society by providing shelter and uncovering ancient technology. You will expand this reborn society across various continents and planets within a hexagonal world layout. There are no weapons or battles with neighbors, only opportunities to build within a solar system full of possibilities. Ancient guardians demand attention and challenge your settlements, requiring you to use wits rather than combat to circumvent them. You can trade goods between your settlements by sea and by space to share resources effectively. The game offers exploration across six unique biomes found on islands of different shapes and sizes. Researching ancient technologies allows you to solve the challenges that your ancestors once faced without resorting to conflict. The main story takes approximately 15 hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to about 22 hours. A completionist run requires around 30 hours to fully explore all aspects of the game. You can relax and expand the fabric of your growing societies at your own pace throughout these durations. The goal is to create a solar system of happy planets while avoiding the mistakes made by previous generations.
