About
City of Brass is an action indie title developed and published by Uppercut Games that was released on May 4, 2018. The game offers a single-player experience with controller support for players who prefer using a gamepad. Set in an opulent metropolis inspired by Arabian Nights themes, the setting serves as the backdrop for the main adventure. Players take on the role of a daring thief equipped with a scimitar and a versatile whip to navigate the environment. Combat involves lashing and slashing while baiting traps to reach the heart of the city or avoid certain death. The experience is presented in a first-person perspective, allowing direct interaction with the world around the character. The main story takes approximately five hours to complete for those focusing on the primary narrative. Adding extras extends the playtime to roughly eleven hours for players seeking additional content beyond the core plot. A completionist run requiring all achievements or collectibles will take about sixteen hours to finish.

City of Brass Critic Reviews and Review Scores

There's no doubt that City of Brass is meant to be punishing. But between its ungainly controls, its inability to stave off a sense of tedious repetition, and spirit-breaking lack of progression, it feels far less fair and more painful than its rogue-lite brethren. Its superficial use of the Arabian Nights folklore, combined with its monotonous design and reliance on exotic cliche, make it as uninteresting to experience as it is excruciating to endure.

A gorgeous and unique setting, engaging environmental puzzles, and plentiful accessibility options result in a strong, enjoyable roguelite adventure

City of Brass is a good dungeon crawler, with some of its best moments and mechanics derived from its rendition of an Arabian Nights theme. While its repetitive scenery and uneven presentation are noticeable tarnishes on its sheen, the satisfying combat and well-balanced difficulty curve will keep you going back for more.
