About
Fort Solis is an indie adventure and simulation game developed by Fallen Leaf and Black Drakkar Games for Dear Villagers, released on August 22, 2023. The single-player experience supports controller input and takes place in a sci-fi setting centered around a mining base on the Red Planet. Jack arrives at the dark and desolate facility after receiving an unusual alarm call from a remote location. With storm warnings imminent, he heads inside to make desperate contact before events escalate out of control. The narrative unfolds across four chapters that can be played as one intense session or consumed chapter by chapter like an episodic show. Players will encounter performances from Roger Clark, Troy Baker, and Julia Brown as they explore the mystery of what happened to the crew. The story is supported by additional instances such as audio logs and surveillance footage detailing events before and after the alarm was triggered. These video logs recorded by all crew members provide context for the fate that awaits Jack with each passing hour. Visually, the game utilizes Unreal Engine 5.2 to bring a realistic universe to life with detailed facial and body animations. The skeleton of Fort Solis is built above and below ground, containing various locations with their own surface and sub-surface levels. Players can explore the isolated storm-bearing surface, creepy service tunnels absent of light, and multiple departments including Engineering, Medical, and Communications. As the story unfolds, these locations can be easily revisited for additional story context or to serve as a backdrop for the ongoing events.

If Fort Solis really was a Netflix series, it wouldn't get a second season.

Fort Solis places a small but intriguing cast in its off-Earth saga in ways that can be familiar, but it justifies its addition to the subgenre with its own fun twists and philosophical arguments.
