About
Hammerwatch is an action indie fantasy adventure and RPG developed and published by Crackshell. Released on August 12, 2013, this fast-paced hack and slash title draws inspiration from classic games in its genre. Players navigate through the mysterious Castle Hammerwatch, moving from the bottom floors to the top where an ancient dragon resides. The experience includes a free Temple of the Sun campaign within the main content. The game supports single-player modes as well as multiplayer co-op for up to four players online, on LAN, or locally. You can choose between six different classes, each offering unique features and skills for character development through unlocks and upgrades. The environment consists of four distinct areas filled with traps, hidden secrets, and puzzles that require careful navigation. Trap avoidance and monster combat are central mechanics throughout the journey. Customization options allow players to adjust difficulty using several different modifiers or switch between hard, medium, and easy settings. Controller support is available for various gamepads on PC, Mac, and Linux platforms. The main story takes approximately eight hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to fourteen hours. A completionist run requires about thirty-one hours of gameplay. The editor tool lets users build custom levels with their own graphics or try out community-created content. Multiplayer functionality on Mac is noted as still being developed and may not work properly at this time. The package offers both solo adventures and cooperative experiences for friends looking to fight thousands of monsters together.
