About
Heart of the Woods is a fantasy yuri visual novel developed and published by Studio Élan that focuses on paranormal investigation and ancient mysteries. The game features single-player gameplay where players explore a love story between two girls that transcends life and death. Released on February 14, 2019, the title belongs to the indie, visual novel, adventure, and casual genres. It includes approximately 130,000 words across multiple endings with a main story length of seven hours. The narrative follows Maddie Raines, who has served as manager, editor, and business-handler for her best friend Tara's paranormal vlog channel. After years of managing Tara's content, Maddie is ready to move forward with her own life but agrees to one last trip to the village of Eysenfeld. During this visit, she becomes involved in a dangerous supernatural crisis that alters the course of both their lives. A young woman named Morgan joins them and offers proof of paranormal phenomena that eclipses anything they have seen before. While Tara and Morgan investigate the mysteries surrounding the village, Maddie forms a bond with the ghost of a young woman named Abigail. Abigail is bound eternally to the forest surrounding Eysenfeld as part of an ancient curse resulting from a centuries-old injustice. For over two hundred years, she has existed in crushing loneliness until she reveals herself to Maddie for the first time. As Maddie learns the truth about Abigail's death and imprisonment, she realizes they must break the curse that has ruled Eysenfeld. Maddie is described as professional, meticulous, and intellectual, though she faces self-doubt when entangled in phenomena beyond her comprehension. Tara is unfailingly charismatic and bursting with energy, often acting as a magnet for trouble through flirting or pig-headedness. Morgan, the daughter of Eysenfeld's mayor, runs an antique shop but disappears into the woods for days at a time investigating sinister forces. Her resistance to traditional social standards has given her a notorious reputation in the village. The game features incredible character and CG art from Rosuuri along with fully original backgrounds and a soundtrack. Extra features include a music room, a CG viewer, and a guest art gallery alongside multiple accessibility options. The ending theme is provided by In Love With A Ghost. Players can experience at least one really, really gay ghost within the story. The completionist length extends to eight hours when including extras.
