About
Lovecraft's Untold Stories is an action roguelite developed by LLC Blini Games and published by Fulqrum Publishing, released on January 30, 2019. This indie title blends shooter, RPG, adventure, and horror genres to let players explore randomly generated levels inspired by H.P. Lovecraft stories. You will fight cultists and various monsters from the Mythos while improving your weapons and gear throughout the investigation. The game focuses on single-player gameplay where you solve puzzles and search for clues to defeat the Great Old Ones and the Outer Gods. Five distinct characters offer different playstyles and storylines within the game. A private detective provides a balanced approach with average health and stamina, while a witch deals high damage using teleport abilities and elemental shields despite having low health. The professor specializes in ranged combat and uses the Tillinghast weapon to grant a special shield, whereas the thief excels in melee attacks by utilizing stealth. You can also play as a ghoul that regenerates health and deals significant melee damage but cannot use medkits. Each character has unique stats, weapons, and combat moves that create varied experiences across randomly generated levels. Locations range from creepy Victorian mansions to abandoned hospitals where forbidden experiments occur and jungles where lost tribes perform forgotten rituals. You must investigate thoroughly to find secret levels and knowledge about the Great Old Ones, as their mere presence can drive you insane without prior information. Special items scattered across every level provide data on entities like Great Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, Dagon, Shub-Niggurath, and Azathoth. Acquiring this knowledge strengthens your mind, allowing you to face these horrors with a chance at survival rather than immediate madness or death. The main story lasts approximately five hours, while the full experience including extras extends to about twenty-nine hours. During your adventures, you will encounter situations requiring difficult choices where wrong decisions cause sanity loss. If sanity drops too low, characters lose their minds and take their own lives to escape the eternal terror they perceive. There are methods available to recover sanity, but players must explore extensively to find them before events shake their mental state. Collecting and improving weapons, items, and artifacts is essential for progressing through these intense action roguelite challenges.
