About
Narita Boy, published by Team17 Digital LTD and developed by Studio Koba, is an indie action-adventure platformer released on March 29, 2021. The single-player experience begins with a flashback to the 1980s, where a genius named The Creator builds the Narita One console. This device launches the flagship title Narita Boy, which quickly becomes a best-selling game worldwide within weeks of its release. Critics praised the power-fantasy elements involving the Techno-sword and the unique journey it offers players. The narrative shifts when the digital realm connects with reality inside the binary code, causing Him to return and delete The Creator's memories. In response, the Supervisor program known as Motherboard activates the Narita Boy protocol alongside her agents. Players assume the role of a legendary pixel hero trapped as an echo within the Digital Kingdom who must face this threat. The Stallions arrive to challenge the hero, requiring them to save the world from corruption and darkness. Visually, the game presents hand-drawn animations that bring a retro-era aesthetic to life for the player. Exploration involves moving up, down, left, and right to uncover mysteries within the darkest depths of the broken binary code. The protagonist wields the Techno-sword, the only weapon capable of defeating the Stallion threat by plunging it into enemy digital hearts. Combat encounters include face-offs against bosses such as the Crab, DragonBot, and Black Rainbow, among others. Audio design features fresh waves of synth sounds and kickin' beats that evoke a retro-grade atmosphere while traveling through the Digital Kingdom. The main story takes approximately seven hours to complete, while including extras extends the playtime to nine hours. A completionist run also requires about nine hours to finish all available content. These elements combine to form a radical action-adventure where players lock swords with corrupt foes and discover hidden truths.
