About
Port Royale 4 is a historical strategy and simulation title published by Kalypso Media Digital and developed by Gaming Minds, released on September 24, 2020. Players assume the role of an ambitious governor tasked with expanding a small settlement into a thriving trading city within the Caribbean during the 17th century. The game offers single-player campaigns where you can choose to lead for England, France, Spain, or the Netherlands, each presenting distinct gameplay styles and benefits. You will manage production chains that link multiple islands while establishing complex trade routes to satisfy the growing needs of various cities in a large 3D world containing 60 locations. Your governorship involves fulfilling tasks for your nation's viceroy to earn fame, which unlocks new town buildings, ships, licenses, and permits as your reputation grows. You must navigate detailed sea maps to avoid stormy weather regions, cliffs, and shallow waters while managing up to 50 different buildings, including 25 production sites for goods like rum and luxuries. The experience includes controller support and allows you to appoint a leader from four character classes: Explorer, Merchant, Buccaneer, or Pirate, each offering specific advantages and disadvantages. You can also conquer rival cities or hunt down their fleets using a letter of marque while remaining vigilant against pirates and other privateers. Naval combat in this title utilizes a turn-based system where up to eight ships engage simultaneously, allowing tactical captain maneuvers to influence the outcome of battles. The game features 18 historically authentic ship types from the late 16th and 17th centuries that players can utilize during these tactical encounters. Completing the main story takes approximately 19 hours, while a completionist run extends the playtime to 30 hours without additional extras listed.
