The Ascent is a solo and co-op Action-shooter RPG set in a cyberpunk world. The game takes place on Veles, a densely populated cyberpunk metropolis known as The Ascent Group arcology. This corporate-run city reaches high into the sky and houses creatures from across the galaxy. Players assume the role of a worker enslaved by the corporation that owns them and everyone else in their district.

One day, players are thrust into a series of catastrophic events when The Ascent Group unexpectedly shuts down for unknown reasons. This shutdown threatens the survival of the player's district. Players must take up arms and investigate the cause of these events.

The game can be played solo or with up to three friends in either local or online co-op. Players have a variety of weapons at their disposal, allowing them to aim high or low and switch between different options. The main story takes approximately 12 hours to complete. Adding the extras extends the playtime to around 18 hours. A completionist playthrough can take up to 26 hours.
