About
Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is an RPG published and developed by Square Enix that takes place in a world of swords and sorcery. The narrative is presented entirely through the medium of cards, functioning like a tabletop role-playing game with narration from a gamesmaster. Players follow a self-proclaimed hero on a quest to slay a recently awakened dragon within this single-player experience. The project features contributions from Yoko Taro as creative director, Keiichi Okabe for music, and Kimihiko Fujisaka for character design. The main story takes approximately 13 hours to complete, while the full content including extras extends the playtime to about 15 hours. Those aiming for a completionist run can expect to spend around 19 hours exploring all available content. It is important to note that certain parts of the game requiring an internet connection may stop being supported at any time. This title offers a nostalgic gaming experience rooted in its specific design choices and presentation style.

Strip away the framing and this is a throwaway JRPG that never finds its bite.

Voice of Cards is effectively Baby's First Yoko Taro Game, though its approachable nature does make it a little less satisfying.
