About

POOLS is an indie adventure simulation developed and published by Tensori that was released on April 26, 2024. This first-person mystery experience features single-player gameplay where players explore environments without a user interface or dialogue. The game relies entirely on sound effects and changing echoes to create a tense atmosphere as you move through different rooms. Walking in water slows your movement, adding to the feeling of being truly present in the space. The title draws inspiration from internet phenomena such as liminal spaces, found footage, and the Backrooms concept. It specifically references Poolrooms or Backrooms Pools, with original artist Jared Pike cited as one of the key influences. Other inspirations include Matt Studios videos from 2022, Mortain Colors, Anemoiapolis Chapter 1 by Andrew Quist, and Kane Pixels The Backrooms found footage. These elements shape a world where rooms look and feel different as you advance further into the experience. There is no typical story or characters to meet, and players will not find any notes within the game. Instead of solving many puzzles, there are only a few mazes that sometimes challenge your navigation skills. The gameplay focuses on fears of getting lost in the dark and tight spaces rather than monsters chasing you. Each of the six unique chapters takes between 10 and 30 minutes to play, offering a distinct mystery in every new place. A demo version of POOLS is available for players to try before purchasing the full title.
