About
Rift Wizard is an indie role-playing strategy game published and developed by Dylan White, released on September 1, 2021. The single-player experience centers on an immortal amnesiac wizard who must rebuild his spellbook to slay a rival. Players engage in challenging turn-based combat while navigating procedurally generated levels that test strategic thinking. The game offers open-ended character advancement with deep synergies and spell interactions within a huge library of over 100 unique spells and passive skills. Resources are limited, permadeath is enforced, and the high difficulty requires careful management of low randomness environments where player agency remains central. The visual style utilizes crisp 1990s retro RPG aesthetics to present diverse and varied monster designs throughout the campaign. The main story takes approximately 18 hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to around 149 hours. A completionist run of the game can reach up to 158 hours depending on how deeply players explore the open-ended character building systems. The title draws inspiration from classics such as Nethack, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, Brogue, and Tales of Maj'Eyal while pushing the genre forward with its specific mechanics.
