About

Released on November 29, 1997 by Cyan Inc, Riven is a first-person adventure and puzzle game developed by Cyan Worlds. The title features single-player gameplay that utilizes an original point-and-click style with nearly five thousand images and over three hours of full motion video. Players enter a deceptively beautiful world torn apart by age-old conflicts where secrets lie hidden at every turn and nothing is as it seems. The short description notes the line, My worst fears have been realized. The damage is more extensive than previously imagined. I must act while there is still time. I must find someone… to send to Riven. This narrative continues where Myst and its companion novel, Myst: The Book of Atrus, left off. Your friend Atrus sends you to rescue his beloved wife Catherine, who is trapped on the slowly collapsing Age of Riven by Gehn. You will search through dense jungles, awe-inspiring caverns, and monolithic structures within this world of incomparable beauty, intrigue, and betrayal. The experience requires using your wits and powers of observation to solve devious puzzles and find secretive characters. Only after finding these elements will you learn the truth about this troubled land and its inhabitants. If you enjoyed Myst, you are bound to enjoy Riven as one of the most beautiful and acclaimed adventure games of all time.
