About
Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate is an indie strategy roguelike developed and published by PUNKCAKE Delicieux that arrived on May 11, 2022. This single-player title reimagines chess by replacing your entire army with a royal shotgun while maintaining the classic checkboard setting. During gameplay, you move your king or shoot at enemy pieces each turn, then must move again to reload the weapon before acting once more. The objective is to avoid checkmate and eliminate the opposing king to finish each floor of the game. After completing a floor, players can select from two random combinations offering one upgrade for themselves and one for the other side. Choosing wisely allows you to win subsequent floors with the goal of reclaiming your kingdom through continued success. The experience includes an endless mode alongside a chase mode, providing varied ways to play beyond the standard progression. The main story takes approximately one hour to finish, while including extras extends the playtime to around nine hours. For those aiming for completion, the game offers up to thirty-nine hours of content across its various challenges. Difficulty spans fifteen distinct ranks, and there are over eighty achievements available to unlock alongside upgradeable cards. Runs generally last about twenty minutes to complete depending on the choices made during the session.
