About
Tales from Toyotoki: Arrival of the Witch, formerly known as The witch of the Ihanashi, is a single-player text adventure game developed by Fragaria and published by Fragaria, Seikei Production, and Mayflower Entertainment. This English version presents a heartwarming narrative that was well-received in Japan before its release on August 19, 2022. The story combines romance, comedy, and fantasy elements within the setting of Okinawa, Japan. Players interact with the plot by clicking on the screen to read through the unfolding events. The game follows Hikaru Nishime, a high school student who lost his parents early in life. His foster mother instructs him to move in with his grandfather during the spring of his first year of high school. Hikaru travels alone to Toyotoki island, a remote location with fewer than 1,000 residents, via a ferry. Upon reaching his grandfather's house, he discovers that the elder has moved overseas. The narrative continues as Hikaru attempts to contact his foster mother without success. The experience functions as a classic text adventure where choices lead down a completely linear path rather than branching storylines. Main characters in the tale receive full voice acting throughout the playthrough. Fans of the genre can expect a playtime of around 10 hours for the main content. The title remains an ongoing project with plans for an English release scheduled for late autumn of 2024.
