About
The MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories is an action, indie, and adventure title developed by White Owls Inc. and published by Arc System Works. It was released on October 11, 2018, as a single-player experience where the protagonist searches for her missing best friend on Memoria Island. The gameplay revolves around J.J. Macfield reviving infinitely to save her companion after she goes missing during a camping trip. Players must navigate a world filled with mystery while facing dangerous situations that threaten their life repeatedly. Progression often requires accepting harm to the body, such as being struck by an iron ball or suffering dismemberment. Certain obstacles and traps can only be overcome by sacrificing limbs or breaking the character in two to fit through tight spaces. The game includes unconventional methods like jumping into fires or enduring crushing forces to find necessary tips for advancement. Despite these horrifying death traps across the mysterious island, J.J. continues forward without permanent consequence due to her ability to revive endlessly. The main story takes approximately six hours to complete, while including extras extends the playtime to seven hours. A completionist run requires about ten hours of gameplay to finish all available content. The narrative focuses on themes of pain and recovery within a setting where conventional and unconventional solutions are needed to get through the island.
