About
The Surge 2 is an action RPG developed by Deck13 and published by Focus Entertainment, released on September 23, 2019. This sci-fi title supports single-player gameplay and includes controller support for a focused experience. The narrative begins with the player traveling to Jericho City before their plane is shot down by a mysterious storm. After crash-landing in the outskirts, the protagonist wakes up weeks later inside a derelict detention facility within the city. Armor-clad soldiers enforce Martial Law while robots operate on a rampage under the shadow of an expanding nanostorm. The game challenges players to survive and explore this sprawling, devastated urban environment. Combat involves slashing and tearing limbs off ferocious threats to steal valuable equipment that strengthens the character. Players can build their persona using an expanded arsenal of weapons, armors, abilities, implants, and drones. The main story takes approximately 21 hours to complete, while including extras extends playtime to about 27 hours. A completionist run through the game requires roughly 38 hours to finish all available content.

The Surge 2 checks many of the boxes for a successful sequel, but this sci-fi action RPG falls just short or recapturing the full dismembering joy of the original.

Deck13 has come a long way, welding together a solid, structurally sound Soulslike that adeptly showcases what makes this genre special.

The Surge 2 is challenging, but finds ways to continually reward the player, whether it's a new piece of armor, weapon, or a life-saving shortcut

Deep, varied, and punchy combat make The Surge 2 worth the effort, even if you have to bear through its lifeless story.
