About
Thumper is an action indie title published and developed by Drool that released on October 10, 2016. This single-player experience focuses on rhythm violence combining classic rhythm-action mechanics with blistering speed. Players control a space beetle navigating a hellish void to confront a maniacal giant head from the future. The game features simple controls requiring only one stick and one button to crash through punishing obstacles. The gameplay involves hurling forward while mastering new moves to reach overwhelming velocities during epic boss battles. Every crushing impact is synchronized with a pounding original soundtrack by Brian Gibson of the noise-rock band Lightning Bolt. Visuals are described as psychedelic, supporting both traditional HD and VR play on SteamVR or Oculus hardware. The experience includes nine levels of Rhythm Hell featuring Adrenalizing Boss Battles, including the terrifying Crakhed. The main story takes approximately eight hours to complete, while the full campaign with extras extends to fourteen hours. A completionist run through all content requires about eighteen hours of gameplay time.

Thumper Critic Reviews and Review Scores

Thumper’s brutal, breakneck speed and precision-based musical action kept me entranced for all nine of its bizarre, nightmarish stages, which contained enough nuanced high score-chasing tricks to demand several replays already. To really master Thumper’s many layers of rhythm-based mechanisms would take much more time than the 10 or so hours it takes to complete the first time – and that’s a challenge that I eagerly accept.

A total assault on your ears, eyes and reflexes. Thumper will beat you up, but you’ll enjoy it.
EurogamerChristian Donlan
Great art and a distinct approach to rhythm action makes this a brilliantly horrible twitch experience.
