About
Codemasters and Electronic Arts released Toybox Turbos on November 11, 2014. This racing title functions as a reboot of a classic table top experience. Players can engage in both single-player and multi-player modes within the game. The roster includes 35 vehicles that are available for collection and customization. The game features eighteen tracks designed with obstacles and shortcuts to encourage chaotic competition. Circuits include settings such as a kitchen table with sticky jam, a school environment with flaming Bunsen burners, and a railway set with a runaway train. Users can utilize various power-ups like mines, machine guns, and giant car-mounted hammers to send rivals into a spin. The single-player component offers six distinct game modes for players to master. Virtual reality support is included through the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 headset. The main story requires approximately three hours to complete. Adding extras extends the playtime to four hours total. A completionist approach to the game also takes around four hours to finish.

Toybox Turbos Critic Reviews and Review Scores
EurogamerDan Whitehead

It's hard not to see the ways in which this could have been more ambitious, more innovative in the way it dusts off the past, but equally it's hard to blame Codemasters for simply giving Micro Machines fans exactly what they wanted, just how they remembered it. As a budget-priced reminder of simpler times, Toybox Turbos does everything it needed to, but sadly not much more. Here's hoping it leads to a genre revival - and a bolder sequel.
