About
Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen is an RPG, Adventure, Strategy, and Simulation title published by DMM GAMES and Shiravune with development from AQUAPLUS. This single-player game was released on January 22, 2021, serving as the first entry in a trilogy of story-rich tactics RPGs. The narrative begins when Hakuowlo awakens in a world filled with verdant nature, populated by folk with fluffy ears and fuzzy tails. He arrives in bed, gravely injured, attended by a girl with twitching furry ears and a lush, bushy tail. The player eventually leads the villagers to whom Hakuowlo owes his name and life after regaining consciousness. When local nobles threaten these villagers, the protagonist threatens the nobility right back. The story explores questions of identity as one wonders if the character is a farmer, a scholar, a traitor, or a beast. Although the past has been forgotten, the game invites players to discover the secrets of this world and their own lost history. The main story offers 31 hours of gameplay, while including extras extends the experience to 39 hours total. Completing all content requires 48 hours of playtime. Combat features dynamic chain attacks and flashy co-op chains within a thoughtful and slick tactics-RPG system. The game brings the hit Japanese tactics-RPG visual novel series back to PC for this release.
