About
Hand of Fate 2 is an action indie fantasy RPG developed and published by Defiant Development, released on November 6, 2017. This single-player dungeon crawler takes place in a dark fantasy world where players master a living boardgame system. Every stage of the adventure draws from a deck of legendary encounters that the player chooses for themselves. The enigmatic Dealer acts as the opponent who shapes the player into an instrument of revenge through these choices. The game setting has transformed significantly, with one hundred years passing since the Dealer was usurped and a new master took control. Players face twenty-two exciting new challenges designed to push deck-building skills to their limit. These tasks include hunting fiendish assassins, reuniting star-crossed lovers, or building a fortress to withstand a raider assault. The stakes remain life or death throughout these transformed scenarios. Players can enlist the aid of all-new companion characters to team up in battle or bend the rules of the boardgame in their favor. Hundreds of new encounters, artifacts, and items are available to earn and upgrade during gameplay. Combat is enhanced with action-RPG mechanics allowing players to shred foes using quick dual-wielded daggers or brutalize them with heavy two-handed hammers. Building up a combo meter enables the use of powerful special attacks against these enemies. New foes appear united by all-new card suits, including disciplined Imperial soldiers, corrupted mutants, and northern raiders. The main story takes approximately twenty hours to complete, while the full experience with extras extends to forty-two hours. A completionist run through all content requires about one hundred hours of playtime.

Hand of Fate 2 Critic Reviews and Review Scores
IGNLeif Johnson

Hand of Fate 2 doesn't change much of the concept that made the first game so appealing, but everything here – whether it's challenges, smarter deck building, companion characters, and better combat – marks a major improvement over what we saw in 2015. Repetitiveness can still be a problem, but it takes much longer for it to show up. This time around, this is definitely a hand worth playing.

Hand of Fate 2 is a satisfying sequel and a meatier dungeon crawler, but still somewhat hampered by limited combat.

While the combat may drag down the highs a bit, the core experience is a fantastic and unique trek through a card-created fantasy world

A much-improved sequel that blends disparate gameplay styles to create a compelling roguelike experience.
