About
Hard West 2 is a tactical action RPG and strategy title published by Good Shepherd Entertainment and developed by Ice Code Games, released on August 4, 2022. The single-player experience follows Gin Carter, a notorious outlaw seeking a large score involving federal gold from the legendary Ghost Train. You gather a group of companions who possess both firearms and supernatural abilities to confront threats in this dark setting. The narrative takes place across diverse environments ranging from snow-covered vistas to frontier towns within the unforgiving Wild West. Players make difficult decisions that result in gruesome consequences while exploring areas filled with demons and occult darkness. Survival is a constant challenge as you navigate a merciless world where every choice impacts your journey. Combat occurs in turn-based fashion within dynamically shifting environments, requiring strategic thinking alongside tactical shooting. You can chain together stylish kills to extend your streak and replenish action points known as Bravado State. The gameplay includes various scenarios such as horseback chases and tense train hold-ups that test your strategic skills. Your posse can be enhanced by finding mysterious playing cards to build poker hands and equipping them with guns, explosives, or food. Managing your team requires careful attention since poor choices may reduce their loyalty while good decisions unlock new skills. You are responsible for directing a mix of gunslingers, witches, and other mysterious beings throughout the campaign. The main story lasts approximately 19 hours, extending to 22 hours if you include extra content. Completing all aspects of the game takes about 25 hours depending on your playstyle. The plot involves chasing a devil figure to reclaim what was stolen, specifically your soul, in an epic fight through uncharted badlands.

Hard West 2 has plenty of little annoyances, but it's a supernatural western tactics game with a lot of style and the substance to back it.

A superb tactics game that looks like an XCOM clone but really, really isn't.
