You will guide MIO through the vast expanse of the Vessel while repairing damaged robots to help them unveil the Ark's past. These interactions provide valuable bonuses and allow you to interact with the environment to learn more about its history. Your curiosity drives the discovery of many secret pathways as you unravel the dark secrets behind the tragic blackout. The universe draws inspiration from comics, paintings, and anime, creating a world full of artistic curiosities and innumerable details. A dynamic soundtrack blends lo-fi beats and choral melodies to accompany your journey through this environment. As a gigantic labyrinth, the Vessel functions as a true living organism with its own ecosystems, bestiaries, and architectures. Progress is aided by earning abilities such as a grappling hook, air gliding, and spider-like wall clinging to navigate the twisted space. Players must master precision, rhythm, and timing to find the perfect flow while confronting over 30 enemy units and 15 formidable guardian bosses. Adversaries range from the relentless Mosquito to the menacing Scarecrow, each possessing distinct fighting styles and movement patterns. Your arsenal includes powers like a Hook for evasion, orbs as projectiles, and decoy clones to strike from unexpected angles. You can enhance and customize MIO abilities by scavenging enemy components to tailor your playstyle. Choices include modifying your grappling hook into a deadly lasso or an evade move, or sacrificing your Shield to boost damage. The experience invites you to seek and wake the memories of the Vessel to save it from oblivion. With many great games, I am eager to shout from the rooftops to get as many people as possible to play. I sincerely enjoy Mio, but I’d also be extremely hesitant to recommend its rigors to all but very experienced players, eager for platforming, bosses, and exploration that are often more chore than satisfaction. However, if that kind of thing sets your heart aflutter, Mio should be very high on your list of must-plays.
